New Era members support the following policies
and many are practically involved
in bringing about beneficial change
.
New Era members work to bring about a more civilised world by:
.
Promoting the health of people and the planet: New Era members support measures which improve the well-being of people and the environment. This concern is integrated with the other two ‘broad-brush’ policies listed below.
.
Localising: New Era members advocate the strengthening of local, regional and national economies in an order to improve the lot of those presently unemployed and, as a consequence, depressed, addicted and/or alienated.
It is realised that political participation is important in bringing this about and support these on a cross-party and independent basis, encouraging people’s participation and decentralisation of powers and decision-making.
New Era welcomes beneficial international trade in surpluses and exotics but supports a reduction in the resource-wasting and polluting import and export of similar goods.
.
Supporting the resolution of conflict without recourse to aggressive physical violence and work for reconciliation between nations and groups in conflict: this includes support for winding down the arms trade; promoting defensive foreign policies like those of New Zealand, Sweden, Switzerland and Japan and working for nuclear disarmament, starting with the ‘Big Five’.
.
We also wish to see a stronger, more independent United Nations Organisation and support those working to that end.
